Of all the things I like to knit, sweaters are my favorite. I designed this drop shoulder sweater with inspiration from one of my friend’s paintings. I loved her use of lines and wanted to incorporate the mood from her painting into a sweater design using minimal lace. I really love the way it turned out – it’s sort of a geometric floral take on her beautiful work. For the finishing touches, I went with a garter rib that accents and flows into the pattern well. Oversized drop shoulder sweaters are probably my favorite to knit because they are so wearable. Holloway is basically a sweatshirt pretending to be a sweater – my kind of easy style! The motif pattern is both charted and written.
Construction:
This drop-shoulder sweater is knit from the top-down in the round. The sweater begins by shaping the back shoulders and knitting to the back underarm. Then stitches are picked up for the front shoulder, which are worked one at a time. From there, both front sides are joined and stitches cast on for the bottom of the front neck. The motif pattern is worked to the front underarm length. Then front and back are joined at the underarms to knit in the round. The body is worked in the round to complete the motif, finished with a bottom hem trim rib. Stitches for the sleeves are picked up along the armhole edge and worked in the round to the cuff. Stitches are picked up around the neck edge and worked in a rib trim.

It is intended to be worn oversized with 4.75-6.75 (6.25-8.25, 8-10, 8-10, 9.75-11, 9.75-11.75, 11.5-13.5, 11.5-13.5, 13.25-15.25) in / 11-16 (15-20, 18.5-23.5, 18.5-23.5, 22-27.5, 22.5-27.5, 26.5-31.5, 27-32, 30-36) cm of positive ease at the bust.
The model wears size 3 with 8 in / 20 cm of positive ease at the bust.
