The Merrows Song cowl is a little bit rustic, and a whole lot of cozy. While creating this piece, I researched mermaids and found that a Merrow is like a mermaid or siren from Irish folklore.
With simple cables, slipped stitches and a garter background, this cowl has a spirit of elegance while also maintaining an everyday feel.
I love bandana shaped cowls (if you didn’t know, yet, now you know!) as they are easy to wear and look great with so many style options.
Cowl is worked flat from the bottom tip. It is shaped by adding stitches on either side for several rows. After the increases are complete, a set amount of stitches are cast on and the cowl is joined to be worked in the round. After several cable rounds are worked, a smaller needle is used to knit a few more rounds to create a funnel shape. Then, it is bound off. The ends are woven in. The piece is then blocked.
